AWESOME + modest is an animation studio based in Los Angeles, California that specializes in mixed media techniques. We started out in music videos almost 20 years ago and directed videos for Bo Burnham, Tally Hall, The Mountain Goats, Kirk Hammet from Metallica and many more. Over time, we transitioned into doing more animation and graphics for documentaries, but we've kept the same experimental approach.

We love creating animation styles that fit the unique needs of each project that we work on. We created the hyper-stylized, photo cut out animations for the HBO mini series The Lady and the Dale. We used a very detailed, handmade oil painting style to tell the historical stories in Netflix’s Stamped From the Beginning. We blended live action reenactments with surreal black and white backgrounds for HBO’s The Stroll. We often design all the titles, photo treatments, maps and posters for projects as well to give them a unified look and feel.

We've created commercials for Scion, West Peak, Microsoft, Kate Spade, Chanel and more. We won a Clio award for the promo we made for HBO's The Lady and the Dale.

We also write and direct our own work. We co-created the Comedy Central series Jeff & Some Aliens starring Brett Gelman, Christian Slater, Keegan Michael Key and Pamela Adlon. We wrote and animated over 20 shorts for Comedy Central’s animated variety show, TripTank, and are currently in production on our first animated feature.
